Self Portrait, Frank Vescio
I am a Canadian artist living and working in the eastern suburb of Paris, Montreuil. My work evolved from drawings I created using the vibrations from the metro and commuting trains. The images I make become a type of asemic writing or "Ecriture Imaginaire". I work on paper using various printing techniques as well as acrylic on canvas. The format varies from very small to large canvases.
I work purely from imagination using bamboo brushes, various ink and crow-quill pens on paper. I have embraced printmaking and woodcuts to produce multiples exploring a variety of colour compositions combining "asemic" writing using pens as well as brush and ink. Some images may be influenced by calligraphy but my intention is purely formal. I initially painted in oils after finishing my studies at the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Paris in 1982 but have since evolved exploring various themes and techniques.
